I finally took the time to rewire my network rack, and it turned out to be one of those upgrades that makes a huge difference in daily usability. I swapped out my old, custom-made Ethernet cables for UniFi Patch Cables, and honestly, I’m never going back.
The biggest improvement? These UniFi cables are incredibly thin. That might not seem like a big deal at first, but once I started using them, I realized just how much space I was wasting before. With the thinner cables, I could finally plug every port on my switch without creating a spaghetti monster. Even better — I can now see where every cable goes.
Another small-but-amazing detail: the cable head is flexible. That means I can route everything cleanly and still close the rack door without having to force it or bend anything awkwardly. Everything just fits — as it should.
While I was at it, I took the opportunity to organize everything by color:
- ⚫ Black – POE devices (Cameras & Wifi access points)
- 🔵 Blue – Media (NAS & streaming devices)
- ⚪ White – Regular LAN/network ports
It’s made tracing connections and troubleshooting so much easier, and the rack just looks cleaner and more intentional.
Sometimes, small upgrades really do make a big difference.
